The US Election: What’s happening and how it will impact US relations with Thailand and the region

Link to the program recording here.
The US Presidential election is just over three weeks away, and every poll shows that the race is neck and neck with very little clarity on who will win. But what is clear is the result will affect not just the America but also Thailand and the rest of Asia.
The differences between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are stark, ranging from their personalities and their approach to governing to the policies they espouse. The two candidates are poles apart in their policies that matter to Thailand and the rest of Asia, whether it be on trade and tariffs, US projection of force worldwide, global warming and the environment, ongoing tensions with China, international migration and refugees, human rights and labor rights and building regional alliances.
While it appears there will not be another debate between Trump and Harris, the possibility of an “October surprise” that could upend the race and tilt it to one side cannot be counted out either.
Come to the FCCT to hear experts unpack what’s happening in the United States, what it all means and what is in store for Thailand and the Asia-Pacific region.
Panelists:
Keith Richburg, editorial writer/columnist, The Washington Post.
Phil Robertson, former deputy Asia director, Human Rights Watch.
Jamie Brennan, chairperson, Democrats Abroad Thailand (DAT).
