Who we are

The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand (the FCCT) is a private association organised by its members. We are responsible for the personal information described on this page.

What we collect

When you use this website

If you write to us or sign up for the Bulletin, we receive what you type into the form. The contact form asks for your name, email address, phone number if you give one, a topic and your message. The newsletter forms ask only for a name and an email address.

Our forms are handled by Netlify, which hosts this site, and submissions are emailed to the club office.

We also use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. This records technical information such as your approximate location, browser and the pages you view. It is described in the cookie policy.

When you apply for membership

Applications ask for your contact details and evidence of your work. As set out in the club's by-laws, the Membership Committee may ask for a letter of accreditation or employment, an identification card from an employing news organisation, a press card issued by the Public Relations Department of the Royal Thai Government, broadcast logs, published work carrying your byline, or a work permit issued by the Labour Department.

Some of these are government identity documents. We ask for them only to establish which category of membership applies to you.

Why we collect it

• To answer enquiries sent through the website or by email.
• To send the weekly Bulletin to people who have asked for it.
• To assess membership applications and decide the category of membership, which the by-laws require the Membership Committee to do.
• To administer membership, including dues, renewals and members' voting rights.
• To understand how the website is used, in aggregate.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information. We share it in these circumstances:

• Mailchimp. The Bulletin is sent using Mailchimp. Email addresses collected through the website are added to that list by club staff; the website does not send them there directly. Mailchimp is a service based in the United States, so those addresses are stored outside Thailand.
• Checking membership credentials. The by-laws empower the Membership Committee to consult press files, other Correspondent Members and an applicant's employer in order to establish their credentials. This means we may contact your employer about your application.
• Our suppliers. Netlify hosts the website and processes form submissions. Google provides analytics, fonts and the embedded map. Sanity stores the images and documents the site publishes.
• Where the law requires it.

Cookies and third-party content

Some pages include content served by other companies — an embedded map, a video, the fonts and the analytics script. These can set cookies or record that your browser requested something. What loads, and on which pages, is listed in the cookie policy.

How long we keep it

Membership application documents are currently kept indefinitely, and are accessible to the Membership Committee.

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Every Bulletin carries an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you by email. Enquiries sent through the contact form are kept in the club's email records.

Your rights

Under Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act you may ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, or stop using it in a particular way. You may also withdraw consent you have given — for example, by unsubscribing from the Bulletin.

Write to info@fccthai.com and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Committee in Thailand.
