Released on
February 11, 2025

February 7, Bangkok — Changing Climate Changing Lives (CCCL) Film Festival hosts its 5th edition, showcasing 36 outstanding short films and a remarkable feature film, all representing 21 countries.

This year's short film competition program features 13 Thai short films and 15 international short films, selected from 813 submissions. Among them is the short film "RED OCEAN," directed by Jessada Khimsook, which highlights the critical mission of marine veterinarians working to save rare marine animals suffering from injuries or chronic illnesses that threaten their survival. Another film is "KENTARO," directed by Tilmann Stewart and Gaku Matsuda, a look at the daily life of an 11-year-old boy ‘Kentaro.’ The film explores rural living, his bond with nature, and the balance between preserving heritage and embracing a hopeful future. Additionally, featuring in the in-competition program is the 2025 Berlinale’s official selection "MOUNTAIN ROARS," directed by Pobwarat Maprasob, Chonchanok Thanatteepwong, which is about a civil movement to protect mountains from the private sector's exploitation of these natural resources for mining or stone milling purposes.

The special presentation also features a robust lineup broadening awareness of the impacts of climate change on a global scale. Highlights include WHO LOVES THE SUN, a documentary from Canada by Arshia Shakiba, which recently won the Best Short Film Award in the Orizzonti competition at the 81st Venice Film Festival, WILD SUMMON by Karni Arieli and Saul Freed, a haunting animation exploring the life cycle of salmon in the age of the climate crisis, and BLACK BUTTERFLIES, an animated documentary based on the testimonies of the climate change refugees following Lobuin, Vanessa, and Soma—three women from different parts of the world who lose everything to climate change.

CCCL Film Festival 2025 will take place from February 15th to 16th, 2025, at the Alliance Française Bangkok. The satellite screenings in over 20 locations nationwide will take place from February 17th to 23rd, 2025.
