Ian Martin, 15 April 1951 – 21 October 2021, RIP

Released on
October 21, 2021

The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ian Martin, an associate member who recently died from cancer in Bangkok.

Ian had lived in Bangkok for 40 years and taught English to students from both the Royal Thai Navy and Army, and had a long career as a supervisor at the AUA language school. He contributed occasional letters and articles to the Bangkok Post and was a staunch Liberal Democrat and member of the Unitarian Church.

“He leaves a beloved widow in Thailand, and he will be very much missed by his family in the UK,” said Madeleine Marshall, his sister. “Ian was a most kind, considerate man whose death at the age of 70 is a great loss. He was a genuine humanitarian, always concerned about the plight of the less fortunate.”

Funeral arrangements have already been carried out in Thailand, but there will be a memorial service at 2pm UK time on Sunday, 21 November. This will be livestreamed from Hastings Unitarian Church.
