Appeal for Nate Thayer

Released on
September 6, 2022

Former FCCT board member Nate Thayer, the correspondent for the Far Eastern Economic Review who tracked down Pol Pot on the Thai-Cambodian border in 1997 and covered the bloodshed of Black May in Thailand in 1992, has fallen on hard times and is suffering serious health issues.

"I'm old and crippled now," Thayer recently posted. "Those who went to school to know about these things tell me I will never walk again, at least as it was previously defined by me. That argument I had with two Chinese anti-tank landmines way back when has come back and bit me in the butt ... Two strokes, two heart attacks, two bouts with Covid, sepsis infections which went viral and left me with heart and other damage."

Thayer's many friends in the U.S. have set up a GoFundMe account with a target of $30,000 for anyone who would like to lend him some support at this difficult time.

The GoFundMe site is now up and accepting donations: https://gofund.me/6f5d55dd (you may have to use a VPN to access the page).
